Dallas (March 13, 2009) — March 9, 2009 represented the half-way point for the 7,002 North Texans participating in the 2nd annual Live Healthy Dallas 100-Day Wellness Challenge.
Overall, participants taking part in the program have logged 6,535,225 minutes of activity and have lost a total of 16,243 pounds by following the program either individually or as part of one of the many Live Healthy Dallas teams. These teams have been supporting each other, making important lifestyle adjustments together and enjoying some healthy competition on the road to wellness.
“This has been an outstanding first half of the program,” says Patti Clapp, the Dallas Regional Chamber’s Vice-President, “But more than just the numbers, it is our hope that the activity and wellness habits formed during this time will help North Texans maintain a healthier lifestyle all year long.”
More than 50 Companies and organizations in North Texas are actively participating in this year’s challenge.
Team highlights include:
University Challenge
• The University of Texas at Dallas: 92 participants on 15 teams, logged 140,205 minutes of activity and lost 344 pounds
Hospitals
• Baylor Health System: 2394 participants on 445 teams, logged 1,910,020 minutes of activity and lost 3843 pounds
• Parkland Health and Hospital System: 871 participants on 122 teams, logged 662,275 minutes of activity and lost 2258 pounds
• Children’s Medical Center: 956 participants on 121 teams, logged 1,103,965 minutes of activity and lost 3843 pounds
• Methodist Dallas Medical Center: 164 participants on 24 teams, logged 188,885 minutes of activity and lost 391 pounds
Corporate Teams
• NCH Corporation: 284 participants on 37 teams, logged 323,030 minutes of activity and lost 1288 pounds
• CSANT: 118 participants on 15 teams, logged 139,855 minutes of activity and lost 483 pounds
• Haggar Clothing Company: 106 participants on 12 teams, logged 136,115 minutes of activity and lost 653 pounds
• Tonti Properties: 106 participants on 12 teams, logged 136,115 minutes of activity and lost 653 pounds
• Hitachi Consulting: 85 participants on 10 teams, logged 85,275 minutes of activity and lost 115 pounds
Organizations
• American Red Cross: 50 participants on 5 teams, logged 45,585 minutes of activity and lost 166 pounds
Community Teams
• Live Healthy McKinney (City Employees Program): 326 participants on 42 teams, logged 474,780 minutes of activity and 1183 pounds lost
The country is taking notice
“The Dallas Regional Chamber has made a difference in over 7,000 people’s lives in just 50 days! The response in only its second year here in Dallas is a great statement that North Texas wants to brand it self as a healthy community. Providing the Live Healthy Dallas program to the region has added programming to their healthcare policy outreach. We are learning from Dallas’ program and hope to mirror what the RDC has done here in Dallas throughout Texas. ,” says Troy W. Vincent, Director of Live Healthy America.
Nationally, 49,800 people are participating in Live Healthy America and have logged more than 55 million hours of activity and reported more than 160,000 pounds lost in its first 50 days. Across the country there are several city programs as well as more than 300 businesses and organizations fielding Live Healthy America teams.
