DRC Honors Nine Organizations During the Momentum Awards |

Business Community Honors Nine Companies, Organizations and Projects During the
Momentum Awards Powered by Blueprint for Prosperity
Wednesday, Oct.10th the Dallas Regional Chamber celebrated the success of nine projects, organizations and companies which help to make the Dallas region a better place to work and live.
DALLAS (Oct. 10, 2012) – Wednesday, Oct. 10, business and community leaders came together at the Hilton Anatole to honor several Dallas-area companies and projects that have contributed to the vitality of the region through job growth, location and expansion activities during the Dallas Regional Chamber’s Momentum Awards Powered by Blueprint for Prosperity.
“Over the last ten years, the Momentum Awards have brought to light the innovation and leadership intrinsic in our community. This year’s recipients are no exception,” said Jim Oberwetter, president and CEO of the Dallas Regional Chamber. “Each of the nine outstanding organizations and projects honored with 2012 Momentum Awards have done their part superbly to help boost the local economy and made a lasting impact on our community.”
Established in 2003 as the Momentum Awards, the Momentum Awards Powered by the Blueprint for Prosperity celebrate companies, organizations or projects that have created positive economic momentum in the Dallas region. Six hundred people attended the event sponsored by Citi and Holmes Murphy & Associates.
“Southwest Airlines is honored and humbled to receive the Momentum Award for Total Job Growth. We congratulate all of the award recipients, and we stand with them to help make Dallas a better place to work and live. Indeed, our 41-year history of providing job security and growth for our People is a source of pride for everyone at Southwest Airlines, and that all starts right here in our hometown,” said Gary Kelly, Chairman of the Board, President & Chief Executive Officer of Southwest Airlines, and 2012 recipient of the Total Job Growth award.
Awards were presented in the following categories:
Corporate Headquarters Location
Golden Living
Golden Living relocated its corporate headquarters from Fort Smith, Arkansas to Plano, Texas in 2011, creating over 100 jobs in the region.
Corporate Facility Location
Baylor Medical Center - McKinney
Baylor Health Care System opened Baylor Medical Center at McKinney in July 2012, spending just under $200 million and creating over 500 jobs.
Kohl’s E-Commerce Distribution Center
Kohl’s recently completed a new 951,000 square-foot e-commerce distribution center in DeSoto, creating 400 full-time and 1,600 part-time positions.
Percentage Job Growth
Bottle Rocket Apps
Bottle Rocket Apps specializes in custom, high-end mobile apps that set the industry standard. Their company has increased over 100 percent, adding 78 jobs from 2010 to 2012.
Total Job Growth
Southwest Airlines
Headquartered in Dallas, Southwest Airlines has created over 4,000 direct jobs and an additional 5,000 indirect & induced jobs in the region through the AirTran Airways acquisition and the Dallas Love Field Modernization project.
Community Catalyst
Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge
The City of Dallas, The Trinity Trust, and Trinity Commons Foundation will receive the award.
The $120 million Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge project is one of the three Santiago Calatrava-designed bridges being built over the Trinity River in Dallas connecting downtown to West Dallas.
Innovation Catalyst
The Venture Development Center at the University of Texas at Dallas
The University of Texas at Dallas invested $4 million to purchase the 8,000 square-foot building that houses the Venture Development Center and opened in the fall of 2011. The center is a mentoring program for new startups that assists with some of the hurdles young companies encounter. The center has had 13 spinoff companies creating more than 50 jobs.
Education Catalyst
Group Excellence
Founded in 2004 by a Southern Methodist University student, Group Excellence is a tutoring and mentoring organization for public school students, and has grown into a 500 person operation.
Global Catalyst
The World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth
Founded in 1951, the organization brings international awareness and cross-cultural understanding to the North Texas community. Today, it serves as a gateway to the world for the region, offering an impressive range of programs and events for the public and its more than 3,800 members. The council partners with the City of Addison on WorldFest, the largest international festival in North Texas.
